Bugatti is a Franco-Italian company which was founded in 1909 by Ettore Bugatti, an Italian emigrant in France. The history begins when the company was open in Molsheim, a French city. At the beginnings Ettore wants to be just a manufacturer for other important motor sport companies of the moment.
In first years after foundation Ettore Bugatti projected some sport cars for other companies. He decide to participate at the car races. The choice was partitipation at LeMans, an important 24 hours competition. The cars must be reliable and the circuit is difficult for any car.
The first success for Ettore Bugatti comes when a car projected by his company wins in the First Grand Prix from Monte Carlo. This first success determine Bugatti to change the plans of the company to promote his cars in the car races. This choice was a very good step forward for the Franco-Italian constructor.
In short time the big success are coming for Bugatti, his company produces a great surprise when it wins in the LeMans Competition. This thing happens in with a genial driver at the cockpit: Jean-Pierre Wimille.
After first success at LeMans, another great races, in 1937 and 1939 it makes from the Bugatti company a real succes in the race car world. These successes at LeMans are made by other very good drivers: first was Robert Benoist and the second was Pierre Veyron. The last model of Bugatti is dedicated to the name of Pierre Veyron.
During the World War II, the company it has financial problems and disappear for a period of years. The Bugatti company was rebuild after war by the son of Ettore. After this period, the company was purchased another Italian company and changes the name in Bugatti Automobili SpA. In 1989 it was launched a supersport car called Bugatti EB110. The company was some financial problems and, in 1998 is sell to Volkswagen.
These days, the name Bugatti is linked directly to the Volkswagen company which rebuild the brand exclusively to sport cars. The German compeny changes another time the name of the company to Bugatti Automobiles SAS. In the same year is projected the first concept of a supercar: Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4.
In 2005 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was officially launched and the success makes from this luxury brand, a real legend.
