Lamborghini Countach is the name of a mid-engine sport car produced after the Miura success of the Italian car producer. The car was produced from 1974 until 1990 when it was replaced by Lamborghini Diablo. The number of produced cars is about 2050 in all this time. For Lamborghini company, Countach was a good opportunity to give to the company a real sport car brand. However, from 1974 until 1990 the company it has about four owners. From 1974 until 1977 Lamborghini it was independent but in same year, financial difficulties makes the private producer to sell the company to the Italian Government where Countach was produced until 1984. After this period the company becomes independent and in 1987 it was achieved by Chrysler Corporation.

Lamborghini Countach’s Concept was presented first time in 1971 but the development and construction took about three years. In 1974 Countach in launched on the market and the success was instantly. The concept of Countach was designed first time by Bertone Design Studio and Marcelo Gandini. It’s the designer of Lamborghini Miura, too, with a good experience in Lamborghini collaboration. The car design is very futuristic, with very advanced doors, called scissor doors. This type of doors will be used in the future on the few models: McLaren F1, Mercedes SLR and Lamborghini Diablo.

Countach is powered in first version by a V12 engine with 4.0 liters and able to produce 375 hp. First model of Lamborghini Countach was called LP400. Was made about 157 cars from this model, until 1974-1978. The LP400 engine it was a V12 DOHC with 2 valves for each cylinder. The top speed of this car it was about 170 mph. Lamborghini Countach LP400 was able to sprint from 0-100 in about 5.6 seconds. The car it has a 5 gear transmission, manually activated with very good capabilities.

In 1979 the engineers from Lamborghini launches LP400S model, with a modified engine and very much changes of the body of a car. It was introduced an optional spoiler and few changes in the car structure. However, the car it has a top speed lowest comparing with LP400, with just about 158 mph. From 1979 to 1982 was launched about 237 cars.

In 1982 was LP400 was replaced by the Countach LP500S. This version it has a more powerful engine, with  a changed capacity. The structure of the engine is almost the same, it’s a V12 with 4757 cc, DOHC with 2 valves for each cylinder. The LP500S engine is able to produce a maximum power of 375 hp. The top speed of Countach LP500S is about 164 mph and able to sprint from zero to 100 km per hour in just 5.6 seconds, a very good value for it’s time.

In 1985 is introduced 5000QV model, a modified model, with a bigger engine and able to produce over 500 hp, better than all previous versions. With this motorization, Lamborghini 5000QV it was able to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds. The car was produced until 1988 when it was changed by the 25th Anniversary Countach. This last version of Countach it has minor changes comparing with 5000QV and it was produced until 1990 when the Countach model was retired and replaced by Diablo model.

From 1984 until 1994 a company from Canada, named Ladret Design Studio produces few Countach replicas with Lamborghini accord.

The price of Countach model it depends by the use of a car and the mileage.
