Lamborghini Diablo is a sport car produced by the Italian company with the factory in SantAnta Bolognese, in Italy. The predecessor of this car was Lamborghini Countach, another legend produced by Italian company. Countach production stops in 1990 when it was presented Lamborghini Diablo, in January, the same year.
However, the project of Diablo begins about five years earlier, in 1985 when the company decides to replace the old Countach. The project team of Diablo decides to make a sport car more powerful and with a top speed far away by top speed of Countach. They projected this model of Lamborghini with a high speed in mind: minimum 315 kilometers per hour, a very high speed at his era.
Lamborghini Diablo was produced from 1990 to 2001 and it was a big success for Italian production team. The Diablo was repleced with success in 2001 by it’s predecessor: Lamborghini Murcielago.
The original Diablo was a 2 door coupe with a very advanced design for it’s moment. The car was powered by a V12 mid engine with 5.7 liters capacity. The design of Diablo coupe it was made by a Marcello Grandini. This project head it’s the father of Countach too, so Lamborghini decides to work with him for another car success. Like the previous models, the name Diablo comes from the name of a bull fight from 19 centry, from the Spain corrida.
The result of this project was a cupersport car with very good specifications. The V12 engine is capable to produce abut 492 horse power in the original first model, launched in 2001. The top speed of Lamborghini Diablo, with this first generation of the engine it was about 325 kilometers per hour, the equivalent of 202mps, better than the target of the project team.The torque of the engine is about 426 ft·lbf (579 N·m) and makes Diablo capable to sprint from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in less 4 seconds. The transmission is a five gears manual gearbox, with good specifications.
The traction is a rear wheel drive and the car was capable to fight with success against Ferrari F40. The top speed of Lamborghini Diablo is a little bit better than the competitor maximum speed.
In 1993 was introduced Diablo VT and VT roadster version. These two models have modified transmission, and the power to the road is putted to all four wheels. This is a major improvement of the project and a changes in Diablo’s vision.
1994-1995 Diablo SE30 and SE30 Jotta
In 1994 amd 1995 was introduced other two versions of Diablo, called: SE30 and SE30 Jotta. These was launched in very limited edition and was made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Lamborghini company. The Diablo Jotta was modified in better: the engine was changed and the gearbox modified to a more flexible one. The new engine of Diablo it has about 597 horse power, better than previous model. The new gearbox was modified to have six gears comparing with the old five-gear generation. Other improvements of Lamborghini Diablo S30 Jotta are a weight ighter with about 130 kilograms and changed suspension system, electronically commanded.
1995-1999 Diablo VTT, SV and SVR version
Between 1995 and 1996 Diablo was modified and presented to the public in different versions ans motorization’s. First of all was Diablo VTT version, with a changed twin turbo engine, cooled with water. The engine is produced by Garret and it’s a T4 engine with advanced valves control and changed cylinders. The maximum power of the VTT’s engine it was about 570hp to 760hp, depending by owner of the car and other customized features. VTT is capable to sprinf from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.7 seconds and it has a top speed by 360 km per hour. Diablo VTT was produced in very limited series with six car manufactured and delivered to owners. The price of VTT was $360.000 to over $600.000 USD, in 1995, when this customized model was launched. Diablo VTT it was very well reviewed by the press at the launch.
Diablo SuperVeloce or SV was launched in the same year and it was powered by a 5.7 liter engine capable to generate up to 515 horse power, the equivalent of 382 kilowatts.
In 1996 was revealed a version of SuperVeloce called SVR. It was the first Diablo which uses variable time of valves of the engine. This thing it’s a progress in Diablo’s concept and makes possible good results in top speed and consumption tests. Tha car was partially redesigned and the spots was replaced by the retractable headlights, with automatic covering system.
1999-2001 Diablo VT, VT roadster, SV, GT, GTR and 6.0 VT version
From 1999 between 2001, Lamborghini launches different models of Diablo. The VT version of Diablo was produced from 1999 to 2000 and it has some improvements like a changed gearbox and new redesigned wheels.
Diablo SV version it’s just an predecessor for VT and VT roadster, the changes are very small, comparing with two models. Other Diablo’s versions launched until 2001 was GT and GTR versions (with modified engines and prepared for different race car) and 6.0 VT version.
This last Diablo produced by Lamborghini it was featured with a 6.0 liters engine and two air intakes, used to for cooling system of the car. The exhaust and time valving (controlled by computer) was changed with more performance one, and the body of a car structure was replaced with carbon fiber and other advanced construction materials.
Lamborghini Diablo it was one of the most desired sport cars from 1990 at the launch until 2001 when the Italian manufacturer decided to replace with new Lamborghini Murcielago, a more advanced concept.
